Biodiesel Basics

Biodiesel is a clean renewable alternative fuel that can be used in any diesel engine with little or no modification.

Biodiesel can be made from any natural oil including new vegetable oils, used cooking oil, animal tallow, even some species of algae can pressed for oil.

Less toxic than table salt and more biodegradable than sugar, biodiesel helps to reduce greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants.

Biodiesel can be blended with petroleum diesel in any ratio. Common blends are B2, B5, and B20. The number indicates the amount of biodiesel in the blend. A B5 blend is 5% biodiesel and 95% regular diesel.

When produced locally, biodiesel has the potential to strengthen local economies by creating jobs and reducing dependence on foreign oil.
